Tax planning

Tax planning for small business owners.

Filing a return tells you what already happened. Planning is the part that changes the number. Entity choice, owner pay, and quarterly estimates, decided before the year closes.

What planning covers

Four decisions that move the bill.

Most owners we meet are paying more than they need to for one of these four reasons. We work them in order and write down what we decide.

01

Entity selection

Sole proprietor, LLC, partnership, or S-Corp. We look at your actual profit, not a rule of thumb, and tell you when a change is worth the extra filings and when it is not.

  • What your current structure costs you this year
  • The profit level where a change starts to pay
  • Filing and payroll obligations that come with it
  • Timing, so the election lands in the right tax year
02

S-Corp analysis and owner pay

If an S-Corp fits, the next question is what you pay yourself. We set a reasonable salary you can defend and split the rest as distributions, then check it against retirement and health coverage.

  • Reasonable compensation, written down with the reasoning
  • Salary versus distribution split for the year
  • Retirement contributions that fit the pay you set
  • What the S-Corp return itself will cost you
03

Quarterly estimates

No more guessing in April. We size each quarter off real books, so you set money aside on a schedule instead of finding out after the fact.

  • A number for each due date, with the math shown
  • Safe harbor targets so penalties stay off the table
  • Mid-year resets when the business changes
  • State estimates handled alongside federal
04

A growth year, priced out

Hiring, buying equipment, taking on a partner, or having your best year yet all change the bill. We run it before you commit, so the decision is a choice rather than a surprise.

  • What a big revenue jump actually costs in tax
  • Equipment and vehicle timing
  • Adding a first employee or contractor
  • One-on-one training on your own numbers

How it works

You get the next marker, not a lecture.

We start with a call about what the business is doing now and where you want it in a year. Then we build the plan off real numbers, walk you through it line by line, and leave you with a written summary and the dates that matter. Nothing is theoretical and nothing is a sales sequence.
